About Kate
Kate Maclurcan is an Australian born artist. Kate grew up in Sydney and then spent formative years in regional NSW. Kate spent her 20s travelling and residing overseas –particularly in Turkey and Canada and later in the UK. Upon returning to Australia, she completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong (majoring in Painting).
In the last eight years Kate has furthered studies in painting, focusing on learning classical techniques of oil painting. Kate studied under Celia Gullet for three years which allowed her to develop and refine her skills as a painter and mark maker.
Kate has facilitated oil painting classes both at the WEA Illawarra and privately. Kate has recently relocated from NSW to regional Victoria to begin a new creative chapter.
Kate paints still life, landscapes, birds, and abstract works, it is the latter genre she wishes to push further, using colour as the vehicle for her exploration. Kate values the flexibility and openness of oil paint as her preferred medium. It is through the process of creating, that Kate makes sense of her world. It is Kate’s belief that it is in the practise where the art is found.
